Portraits
Artist Statement:
For the first portrait, I wanted to display a side of myself that many wouldn't assume holds true- the fact that I care deeply about my education and do well in school. The vibe I was going for is a cheesy 70's postcard, because it portrays the cheesy message and casual tone. We used a heat lamp to get the red and classy effect. For the second portrait, I wanted to showcase a different angle of photography that isn't as common. I wanted to capture the beauty in waking up next to my girlfriend, it is very special and I never wanted to forget what that feels like. She came over at 8am to take them. :) |

In this piece, I wanted to display the rising impact of our environmental choices, and how it's effecting the world. That is why I placed the fish in the bottle, to display how our fish are being engulfed by plastic and toxic things in their environment.
It is estimated that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. I wanted to add a gentle vignette around the photo, to highlight and draw focus to the fish and artist statement, but still have the negative space so that the picture is not too close. "We started it. We fix it." is a phrase I thought of to illustrate why we need to act. This is an issue that mankind has crafted... Thus, we are the only ones obligated to and need to fix it. |
